Appending Styles from InDesign Documents
In QuarkXPress, you may have brought in styles from other XPress documents using the Append feature. InDesign has a similar feature, but the InDesign user interface uses the term "load" instead of "append." You can import external styles into an individual InDesign file, or to the default styles available in all documents.
Importing All Styles from a Document
You can append all of the paragraph and character styles from a saved document into your current document by selecting Load All Styles from the flyout menu of either the Paragraph Styles or Character Styles palettes. Regardless of which palette you use to select this command, it imports both character and paragraph styles.
Importing Only Paragraph or Character Styles
If you only want to import only the paragraph or only the character styles from another document, you can select Load Paragraph Styles from the Paragraph palette's flyout menu or Load Character Styles from the Character palette's flyout menu. Unfortunately, there is no way to specify which particular styles are imported (by name), as you can in XPress.
Importing Styles as Defaults
As in XPress, importing styles when no documents are open adds them to the list of default styles available in all new documents.
