Building the Index
Once you have added all the page references, you can tell InDesign to go and get the page numbers and build the index by selecting Generate Index from the Index palette's flyout menu. InDesign changes the cursor to the Place icon, and you can click on any text frame to place the index. You can also click where no frame exists to have InDesign build a frame for you.
