Writing Multiple Parts
To add more parts, simply create more instruments and record or write on the corresponding tracks. In the following examples, I add bass, trumpet, and nylon string guitar to the piano.
To add a bass part
1.

Create a new NN-19 device and load the NN-19 Patches/Bass/ACCBASS patch (Figure 6.11).

Write a bass part to complement the piano (Figure 6.12).

Double-click track names to change them from the default device names, to help you tell them apart quickly (Figure 6.13).

Click play or press the spacebar to hear your loop, and make any necessary adjustments.

If you need to boost the bass volume, either raise the Amp Level fader on the NN-19 (Figure 6.14), or raise the Mixer's Level knob/fader.

To add additional parts
1.

Create more NN-19seach will have its own Mixer channel and Sequencer track.

Load an instrument patch into each NN-19.
For this example, I loaded Brass and Woodwinds/Trumpets and Guitar/NYLONGTR from the NN-19 Patches folder.

Write more tracks, playing and adjusting as necessary.
For the trumpet part, I set the grid value to 1/32 so I could input very short notes to create a slur (Figure 6.15).

For the nylon string guitar part, I selected all the notes and lengthened them to create a legato "open-string" effect.

TIP
Writing parts that mimic the way instruments unfamiliar to you play may take some thought and experimentation. When in doubt, let your ear guide you.
