In many ways, Apple is a victim of its own success and history. If iPod users desired more from their music players, Apple was willing to provide it in the form of a simple contact manager. If those users wanted to free space in their bandolier of gadgets by leaving the Palm device at home, fine. From this day forward, the iPod will display your contacts (and more, as you'll learn in this chapter).
