7-Social Justice

Social justice is so important a value that without it the Islamic system is not materialized. The main objective of the prophets and infallible Imams was establishment of equity and justice in the society. "Without achieving social justice, our society will not become an Islamic one. If someone perceives that the true, divine religion not only Islam can be materialized in the society, while social justice has not been materialized in its true sense, he should bear in mind that he is mistaken. The objective of the prophets was establishment of justice: "We sent aforetime our apostles with Clear Sings and sent down with them the Book and the Balance that men may stand forth in justice(the holy Quran, 57: 25)."[57]

What is social justice, which is the most important slogan of the Islamic Revolution and the objective of all the prophets? "Social justice means the removal of deep hiatus between unfair affluences and depravations and that the oppressed and bare-footed, who are always the most certain and loyal defenders of the revolution, should feel and observe that there is a serious, sincere move towards elimination of depravities. Through the necessary rules and regulations as well as judicial security in the country, the transgression and encroachment upon the rights of the oppressed and intrusion upon the legitimate arenas of their life should be eliminated. Everybody feels that he or she can take his or her case against oppression or transgression to a secure refuge and all should know that they can have a desirable life through effort and endeavor."[58]

Social justice does not negate material welfare, rather material welfare in its true sense is materialized with social justice. It is social justice, accompanied with a revolutionary spirit and ideal as well as Islamic ethical values, that can help construct an exemplary country.

"Material welfare does not mean the spread of consumerism, which is itself an ominous gift of the Western culture, rather it means that the country should reach an acceptable level in its development, construction, exploitation of the mines, utilization of natural resources, maintaining the health of the society, prospering the economy, production and trade by reliance on inherent talents of one's human forces and universalization of science, culture of research and experiment as well as elimination of signs of poverty and backwardness. Revolutionary spirit and ideal means that inclination towards welfare and affluence should not cause the society and officials to lean towards compromise and surrender to the bullying of the big powers of the world, neglect the plots of the arrogance or become indifferent towards the global message of the revolution. Being adorned with the ethical values of Islam means the spirit of virtue and piety and devotedness, magnanimity, tolerance and avoidance of forbidden lusts as well as staying aloof from greed, caprice, worldly indulgence, trampling upon others' rights, dastardliness, accumulation of wealth, but following the path of sincerity, purity, piousness, and spread of other ethical characteristics in the society so that they become the main values."[59]
