Installing OpenOffice.org

For most users, installing OpenOffice.org takes little more than an Internet connection and some time (and more than some time if you don't have a high-speed broadband connection such as DSL or a cable modem). Basically, one needs only to go to the OpenOffice.org website, download OpenOffice.org, and install it onto a computer. Users will be creating Impress presentations and Draw drawings soon after that.

To download OpenOffice.org, you only need to surf to the OpenOffice.org website. One of the first and most prominent links on the page is the

Download link. To download OpenOffice.org, you click this

Download link, choose your preferred language, operating system, and download site, and the download begins.

TIP

As the owner of this book, you don't need to download OpenOffice.org because it's included with this book's CD-ROM!

Once the download completes, the user needs only click the

Open button on the

Download complete dialog box, and OpenOffice.org begins its installation. Even though you don't have to download OpenOffice.org, you'll need to remember where you read these instructions so when an updated version is released, you'll know where to get it. You download and install new versions the same way as you would download and install the very first installation.

NOTE

The installation routine may request that you restart your computer after the installation finishes to set up all the files properly.

To uninstall OpenOffice.org (why would you want to?), select

Add/Remove Programs from the Windows

Control Panel dialog box. Locate the entry for OpenOffice.org and click

Remove .
