As you browse the Internet, you might encounter some pages you'd like to keep open so that you can refer to them again, even as you continue to look around. Firefox allows you to display a linked web page in a tabbed window, and to switch from window to window by clicking the window's tab.152 Customize the Browser .

Right-Click and Choose Open Link in New Tab

One way you can open a link in a tabbed window is to right-click the link and then choose

Open Link in New Tab from the context menu.

and for the new window appear on the

Tab bar at the top of the browser window. Click the tab of the window you want to view.

You can also set a series of tabbed windows to your Home "page," and have them open all automatically when you start Firefox. See

2.

OR Ctrl+Click or Middle-Click a Link

Another way to open a link in a tabbed window is to press

Ctrl and click the link.

Assuming that you've enabled the

Load middle-clicked URLs in new tabs option on the

Tabbed Browsing pane (choose

Tools, Options and display the

Tabbed Browsing pane to see the options available for tabbed browsing), you can also click a link with the middle button of your mouse (even if the "middle button" is a scroll button) to open that link in a tabbed window.

3.

OR Drag a Link to Tab Bar

If the

Tab bar is visible (in other words, you have at least two tabbed windows open), you can drag a link and drop it on an open area of the bar to open that link in a new tabbed window. If you drop the link on an existing tab, the contents of that tabbed window is replaced by the linked page.

4.

Close a Tabbed Window

To close a tabbed window, click its

Close button (the

X ), or right-click the tab you want to close and choose

Close Tab from the context menu. To close all tabs but one, right-click the tab you want to keep open and choose

Close Other Tabs from the context menu.

When you close multiple tabbed windows, you might see a warning reminding you of what you are doing. Click

Close Tabs to continue.
