7.4. Conclusions

LDAP is one of the most complicated technologies
I've worked with lately; to get it working the way
you need to, you'll need to spend a lot of time
testing, while watching logs and fine-tuning the configurations of
both the LDAP server itself and the applications you wish to
authenticate against it.

But having such a flexible, powerful, and widely supported
authentication and directory mechanism is well worth the trouble. If
it isn't already, this will become especially clear
in Chapter 9, in which I'll
show how to use LDAP to authenticate IMAPS email retrieval.
