Chapter 3: Modify Text with Text Elements and CSS

How to…

Create Line and Paragraph Breaks

Indent Text

Position and Align Text

Choose Fonts

Control Font Sizes and Colors

Thus far, you have used HTML to create a Web page and add basic text and list elements. You’ve also probably noticed that your results aren’t very exciting. In fact, drab might be the description that comes to mind. Very likely you’d prefer that your text look fancier, with a variety of fonts, sizes, and colors. In this chapter you will learn how to control text flow with a few additional text elements. You will also learn how to use Cascading Style Sheets to indent text, specify different fonts, and control font size, position, and color. You also will be introduced to XHTML and to one of the most important issues in Web design—content versus presentation. However, before you begin to work with style, you’ll find it helpful to experiment with a few more basic page elements.
