A base address is the first IP address in either a network address or a subnetwork address block. The base address typically serves as the address for that network or subnetwork.

best-effort delivery

The User Datagram Protocol is designed to provide a best-effort delivery. That is, it makes one attempt to deliver data and entrusts the network to get that data delivered. That is known as best-effort delivery.

bit

The term bit is an abbreviation for binary digit. A bit is the smallest unit of data and can have a value of either 0 or 1.

broadband

Broadband describes any of the modern, high-speed Internet technologies such as Digital Subscriber Line or cable modem service.

byte

A byte is a collection of bits, usually 7 or 8. The term, byte, is an abbreviation of binary term. A byte represents a single character.
