- IEEE
- The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE or "I Triple E" as it is more commonly pronounced) is an independent, nonprofit organization that sponsors research and establishes the technical standards for a wide variety of electrical and electronic technologies. Its greatest contribution to data networking has been the standardization of many technologies, including Ethernet.
- IETF
- The Internet Engineering Task Force is a society of engineers dedicated to the maintenance and development of the Internet's technology base.
- interoperability
- Interoperability is the ability to build a functional networked computing environment by interconnecting products from different manufacturers.
- IP

- ISO
- The International Organization for Standards (ISO) was chartered by the United Nations and founded in 1946. Its mission is to set global standards for virtually everything. Everything, that is, except for anything electrical or electronic. ISO developed a generic model for the interconnection of open systems. That model is known as the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) reference model.
- ISP
