Walk through the connection setup

If you choose not to connect to the Internet when you first turn on your Mac, that's okay! You can always do it later (see pages 126129). The beginning of the process is just to get your Mac set up with your personal specifications. You will have a number of screens like the first one shown below, with simple questions.

The screens you see will not be designed exactly like the ones shown below, but they will be very similar!

If you skip the setup when you first turn on your Mac because you're not quite ready for it, you can't go back to this particular setup process. Instead, use the Network preferences as shown on pages 126129 and fill in the information yourself.

If you click the "Show All" box, you'll see a list of many more countries in the world.120, you'll get through it all right!

170), click the ".Mac" icon, then click the "Learn More" button. This will take you to the Mac.com site.

If, before you started the setup process, you already had a .Mac account, your Mac will set that up for you automatically, as you can see here.

In the example below, I chose to add an existing email account because I have several email addresses. The email application called Mail that comes with the Mac checks them all for me.

This is an example of an email account that has a completely different email name and password from the provider account name and password.

The email address shown here is for my partner, John, at the domain "ratz.com," and he has a password for that email address. But the provider account ("User Account ID") is under my name with my account name and password because we use one provider for our home office, and that provider account is in my name.

Even if you have one email account, you still might have an account name and password for your email and a different account name and password for your provider. Write them down!

By the time you finish going through the setup, your Mac will be ready to connect to the Internet. Apple will use that connection to send in your registration.
