HomePage

HomePage is a Web-based authoring tool that you can access from the .Mac Web site. With it, you can create Web pages for a variety of purposes, all without knowing a single tag o280.

This part of the chapter explains how you can use the templates included in HomePage to create a Web page or site and announce it to your friends and family members.

Tip

HomePage uses images and other media already saved in your iDisk storage space. For that reason, it's a good idea to copy the images, movies, and other media you want to appear on your Web pages to appropriate locations on iDisk

before creating a page. I tell you about iDisk later in this chapter.

To create a Web page or site

1.

Click the HomePage button on the .Mac home page (Figure 5 ).

2.

In the HomePage main window (Figure 42 ), select one of the themes listed in tabs along the left side of the window. The template previews change to show templates for that page.

Click the template preview you want to use.

4.

HomePage begins by displaying a series of pages that prompt you for information, such as a folder in your iDisk storage space that contains images or text that you want to appear on the page. Follow the instructions that appear onscreen to replace placeholder text with your own text and choose pictures. You can click the Preview button to see the results of your edits.

When you're satisfied with your finished page or site, click the Publish button. HomePage saves its Web page files to your iDisk storage space and displays a Congratulations screen, which includes the URL for the site

(Figure 46).

Figure 46. HomePage confirms that your page has been published and provides its URL. It also offers a link you can click to announce the page with an iCard.

(Figure 47).
