Installing the Outlook Trusted Code Control

In Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, administrators can specify COM add-ins that are trusted by Outlook’s security features and can be run without encountering the Outlook Object Model security blocks. In order to specify a COM add-in, administrators must first install the Trusted Code Control on the computer they are using to modify the security settings. The control does not need to be installed on client computers.

To install and register the Trusted Code Control

Copy Hashctl.dll from your working directory to the Windows System32 folder on your administrative computer. For example, \Windows\system32.

From the Start menu, click Run, then type the following command line in the box to register the control:

    regsvr32 hashctl.dll

Copy the file Comdlg32.ocx from your working directory to the Windows System32 folder on your administrative computer.

From the Start menu, choose Run, then type the following command line in the box to register the control:

    regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx

Resources and related information

You can customize the list of file types that are not allowed as e-mail attachments and other security settings. For more information about configuring these settings, see “Customizing Security Settings by Using the Outlook Security Template” in the next section.
