Not only does ImageReady make slicing an image easy, it also gives you the ability to modify the slices. Remember that each slice is an individual image fileit can be compressed, or modified in the same way as any other image file. When you compress an image, the image can only be compressed down based on the most complex area of the image. You can create a smaller image by slicing and compressing each slice down to its maximum values. When you work with ImageReady's slicing options, you can actually create several smaller images, which will load faster than the original.
