Slicing Images the Easy Way
ImageReady allows you to slice a document into smaller image pieces. There are several reasons you might want to slice an image. One reason would be to create interactive links from the pieces. Another would be to reduce the size of the image file by individually compressing the separate pieces. Some designers even slice their artistic files to protect them from being easily copied off the Internet. However, one of the best reasons is speed. You can create layer-based slices when working with rollovers to help minimize file size, user-based slices allow you to cut the image into several pieces. Several Web studies show that the Internet can handle smaller packets of information more efficiently than one large packet, so slicing images is a good thing to do.
