Chapter 24. OVO Windows and OVO UNIX Interoperability
The two products OVO Windows (OVOW) and OVO UNIX (OVOU), as mentioned previously, are designed for enterprise-wide management. If the skills of your company's staff are primarily strong with the Windows operating system, it may be more effective to introduce a Windows-centric management platform. This advantage of OVOW makes it an attractive compliment to OVOU. If you decide to take advantage of the two types of management platforms to gain the flexibility and span of administration to multiple teams it is necessary to look closer at how the two server platforms work cooperatively. This chapter contains information on the areas in which the two products OVOW/OVOU may interoperate. One formal definition of interoperability is offered here for reference: 1. The ability of systems, units, or forces to provide services to and accept services from other systems, units or forces and to use the services so exchanged to enable them to operate effectively together. [JP1] 2. The condition achieved among communications-electronics systems or items of communications-electronics equipment when information or services can be exchanged directly and satisfactorily between them and/or their users. The degree of interoperability should be defined when referring to specific cases. [JP1] (188). So, with that in mind, let's take a look at the built-in communication, resource, and service exchanges that are possible between OVOW and OVOU. |
