8.4 CUSTOMIZING EXISTING EVENTS

You can copy existing events and customize them for specific systems. For example, what if you would like to receive a pop up notification when certain devices are unavailable but only wish to receive a message in the Alarm Browser for all other devices? In order to do this, copy the

OV_Node_Down event and modify it according to the following steps:

  1. Open Event Configuration by selecting

    OptionsEvent Configuration .

  2. Select the

    OpenView Enterprise .

  3. Sort Events by name. Select

    ViewSortSort Event by Name .

  4. Scroll down and select the event named

    OV_Node_Down .

  5. Select

    EditCopy Event… .

  6. Provide the event name

    OV_Node_Down_Routers , as shown in Figure 8-25.

    Figure 8-25. Copy the

OV_Node_Down event and modify it for specific nodes. Specify the source using an IP address wildcard, such as 158.153.*.1.

  7. Assuming that all routers contain a 1 in the last octet of the IP address, specify the source as

    158.153.*.1 and click

[Add] . This address must match your enterprise.

  8. Add a pop-up notification, "The node $2 is down," and click

    [OK] .

  9. Select

FileSave from the Event Configuration dialog box.

This event triggers a popup notification on the management station for any IP address 158.153.*.1, and for all others the original

OV_Node_Down event will be used.
