The Dictionary channel (Figure 37 ) enables you to get definitions and synonyms for words and acronyms. Enter the word you want to learn about and let Sherlock look it up on Dictionary.com.
1. | Open the Dictionary channel (Figure 37 ). |
2. | Enter the word or acronym you want to define in the Word to Define box. |
3. | Click the magnifying glass button to look up the word. |
4. | Wait while Sherlock looks up the word. After a moment, search results appear in the window (Figure 38 ): The Dictionary list displays words that either exactly match what you entered or are related to what you entered. Select the word to see a definition in the box beside it. The Thesaurus list displays synonyms for the word you selected in the list above it. Select a synonym to see more information and synonyms. To look up one of the words in the Dictionary or Thesaurus list, double-click it.
If Sherlock can't find the word because you misspelled it (heck, I did it twice while experimenting!), the Spelling Suggestions list appears in place of the Dictionary list (Figure 39 ). Double-click a word in the list to look it up.
