Getting Help in Dialog Boxes

Windows' designers describe the function of check boxes, options buttons, lists, and other dialog-box controls in a few words. This concision yields some obscurely worded labels in crowded dialog boxes. Fortunately, there's "What's This?" help for pop-up tips on individual controls.

To get pop-up help for a dialog-box element:

Right-click an element; then click "What's This?" (Figure 3.9 ).

or

Click the question mark in the top-right corner of the dialog box; then click an element.

Figure 3.9. Here, I right-clicked the Screen Resolution slider for "What's This?" help. To dismiss the pop-up box, click it.

Tip

Right-click inside the pop-up box to print it or copy its contents to the clipboard.
