Reapplying Master Pages

Here's one of the most common problems people encounter in XPress: You add or remove a page in the middle of a facing-pages document and suddenly you have duplicate master page items on each subsequent pagethe empty master page frame and the master page object that has content in it (like the text of a story). This problem does

not go away in InDesign.

The reason this happens is that, as we said earlier, placing a graphic or text inside a frame on a document page automatically overrides the frame for you. When you delete or add an odd number of pages in the middle of a document, the subsequent left-hand pages become right-hand pages (and

vice versa ), and InDesign has to reapply the master page to the document page. Reapplying a master page creates duplicate master page items wherever you have overridden the objects. The only solution is to always add or remove an even number of pages at a time. We feel your pain.
