Chapter 34. Ruler Guides
At first glance, InDesign's ruler guides work in much the same way they do in QuarkXPress: Simply pull a guide from the vertical or horizontal ruler and drag it onto the page. Like XPress, ruler guides that are dragged and released over the page appear only on the page, while guides released with the mouse over the pasteboard extend over both the page and the pasteboardacross all pages in a spread.However, that's where the similarities between the two programs stop. InDesign's ruler guides are much more powerful and much more flexible than XPress's. For example, InDesign ruler guides act just like page elements, so you can select one or more guides at a time, copy and paste them, and even position selected guides numerically using the Transform palette. Guides, like any other object, can be placed on a layer (by default, a guide belongs to the layer that was active when you created it), and using the Layers palette you can show and hide different ruler guide layouts.
