Combining Groups with NestingIn Chapter 13, we said that only one object could be nested in another object. The way to get around that limitation is to group objects before nesting them. For example, in Figure 20-2 we created four stars and a rectangle, then grouped the stars together. To nest the stars into the rectangle, select the group with the Selection tool, Cut them to the clipboard, select the rectangle, and choose Paste Into from the Edit menu (or press Command-Option-V/Ctrl-Alt-V). Figure 20-2. Nesting stars into the rectangle![]() When working with a group nested inside an object, the Direct Selection tool can be used to select individual stars. Click on the edge of a star's frame. If you then hold down the Command/Ctrl key, you can move the star around. To move the stars as a group, you need to use the Group Selection tool: Using the Direct Selection tool, click on the edge of a star, then Option/Alt-clicking twice selects the entire group. Finally, to move the group of stars, hold down the Command/Ctrl key while dragging. |
