Editing, Merging, and Deleting ColorsYou can edit a color by selecting a color in the Swatches palette and choose Swatch Options from the palette menu. Even faster: simply double-click the swatch. Watch out: this applies the color to any selected objects on your page! You can duplicate a swatch color (perhaps in order to edit it to make a similar color) by selecting a swatch and choosing Duplicate Swatch from the palette menu. But it's even faster just to click on the color and then click the New Color Swatch button at the bottom of the Swatches palette (or Option/Alt-click to duplicate and immediately edit it). Deleting and Merging ColorsYou can delete individual swatches by selecting one or more and either choosing Delete Swatch from the palette menu or dragging the swatches to the Delete Swatch button. Like in XPress, InDesign asks you if you want to replace the color with another swatch; InDesign also gives you the option to leave the color alone (it becomes an unnamed color). If you want to delete all the unused colors in your document, first choose Select All Unused from the Swatches palette's flyout menu and then press the Delete Swatch button.Deleting spot colors which come from EPS files can sometimes be tricky. If you delete the EPS file, the added spot colors appear to be locked. To remove them, Select All Unused from the menu, deselect any colors which should be retained, and then use the Delete Swatch command. You can also eliminate colors from your Swatches palette by selecting them and choosing Merge Swatches from the flyout menu (see Figure 83-3). Select the color you want to keep first, then select one or more you want to delete. Figure 83-3. Merging swatches![]() |
