LockingMany XPress users don't realize how fragile the Lock feature is in that program: While locked objects cannot be dragged with the Item tool, you can still change their position with the Measurement palette, the Modify dialog box or even by pressing the arrow keys on the keyboard. InDesign's implementation of the Lock feature is much better. To lock an object, select Lock Position from the Object menu or the context menu. When locked, an object can't be dragged, and can't be manipulated with the Transform palette or the transform tools. However, you can still change formatting attributes or edit text in a locked object. To unlock an object, select Unlock Position from the Object menu or context menu.Another, even more powerful way of locking and unlocking is by organizing page objects on layers, and then locking layers (see Chapter 24). |
