Embedding Graphics You can avoid the need to update or relink images by embedding the graphics into your InDesign file (XPress can't do this). While this eliminates the need to keep track of separate files, this option limits the flexibility of being able to manipulate the separate files. To embed a file, select it in the Links palette and choose Embed in the palette's flyout menu. An Embed icon indicates an embedded file in the Links palette. Later, you can select the embedded file name and select Unembed command from the palette menu if you need to relink to the original image file (or if you lost the original and want to get the picture out again).Because embedding images can create very large InDesign files that are more susceptible to becoming corrupt, we (and our service providers) prefer to keep our image files linked as opposed to embedded. On the other hand, if the image is small (like a 20K EPS file that you're using as a bullet in fifty places throughout your document), embedding isn't so bad.
