Handling Overset Graphics

You may sometimes see an overset condition when you paste or place text or graphics. This is because the object being placed exceeds the space available for it. Our experience is that this most often happens with graphics when the Text Inset values are too large, or when you make the cell height smaller than the First Baseline Offset value. InDesign usually tries to let a graphic expand above and to the right of the cell, even if it doesn't fit. In addition to the methods suggested in Chapter 76, you can also select the cell and adjust the Text Inset or First Baseline Offset values to get the graphic to fit.

If you place a table inside a cell, and the table is taller than the cell, InDesign places as many rows as will fit, and oversets the rest (extra width extends to the right of the cell). To fix the overset, either undo after pasting, or cut the pasted inline table to the Clipboard, and paste it on the page. Then adjust it to fit before copying and pasting it into the table again.
