TOC Styles

Just because the feature is called Table of Contents doesn't mean you have to only use it to create tables of contents. Just like XPress's Lists feature, you can make a list of advertisers, a list of illustrators, and a table of contributing authors, all in the same document. The trick is having InDesign keep track of various groups of paragraph styles. These groups of styles are saved as

table of contents styles , each of which specify a different set of paragraph styles that InDesign is watching, and the paragraph styles that are used to format the text of the list or TOC. You can save all of the settings from the Table of Contents dialog box to easily access them again by clicking the Save Style button. Or, you can select Table of Contents Style from the Layout menu (though this is more cumbersome; see Figure 89-3). Later, to call up the settings for each style, choose the style name from the TOC Style pop-up menu in the Table of Contents dialog box.
