Performing a Search
When you're ready to begin the spell-checking process, click the Start button. As InDesign searches the text, it highlights each suspect word at the top of the dialog box and displays one of these messages: Not in Dictionary, Capitalization Error, Duplicate Word or Unknown Word. Unlike XPress, InDesign shows replacement suggestions from its dictionary immediately.
- If you'd like InDesign to skip the word and not change anything, click either Ignore or Ignore All. Selecting Ignore skips the current instance of the word. Selecting Ignore All skips all instances of the word until you quit InDesign.
- If you'd like InDesign to replace the word, either type in the correct word in the Change To field or select a word in the Suggested Corrections list. Click Change to change that single instance of the word, or Change All to search the current range and change all instances. After a Change All command, InDesign displays a dialog box telling you how many replacements were made.
- If you'd like InDesign to add the word to your user-editable dictionary, click Add to open the Dictionary dialog box (we discuss this in Chapter 42). Note that it's not necessary to open an auxiliary dictionary first to add a word, as it is in XPress.
When InDesign has completed the search, it displays a Spell Check Complete message. If you want to stop the search before completion, just click the Done button.
