Creating a New Master PageMaking a new master page in InDesign is probably different than you're used to. To make a master page, you must select New Master from the Pages palette's flyout menu. In the New Master dialog box (see Chapter 29, and we cover basing one master on another in Chapter 32. Figure 30-1. The New Master dialog box![]() You can also open the New Master dialog box by Command-Option/Ctrl-Alt-clicking the new page button in the Pages palette. Automatic Linked Text FramesLike XPress, anything you put on a master page appears on any document page tagged with the master. However, note that InDesign handles automatic text-link boxes differently than XPress. In XPress, you link from the funny chain icons in the upper-left corner of the master page to the text box. You can achieve the same result in InDesign by simply linking the text frame on the left master page to the frame on the right. We cover linking text frames in more detail in Chapter 40.Note that InDesign offers something that XPress does not: You can have more than one automatically-linked text frame per page. For instance, if you have two text frames per master page, you can link the first on the left page to the first on the right page, and the second on the left page to the second on the right page. |
