Auto Page Numbers and Jump Lines The Insert Special Character submenu includes three characters used to reference pages in a document. The Auto Page Number is the equivalent of XPress's Current Page Numberusually placed on master pages to create page numbers. The other two charactersPrevious Page Number and Next Page Numberare used when stories jump from page to page, as they often do in newsletters or magazines. In InDesign, it usually works best to place these characters in a separate frame for a jump line (for example, Continued on Page x ). Position the jump line so it overlaps the main story frame, and then it can correctly call out the page you're jumping to or from. All three characters work exactly the same way as in XPress.
