Text and Context Menus We suggest you make your life easier by following the mantra, "When in doubt, use the context menu." Unlike QuarkXPress, InDesign provides access to most common text modification options through context menus, and offers some great time saving features too.For instance, you can forget about Key Caps or the Character Map when looking for seldom-used characters. InDesign packs them into the Special Character submenuone of many available from the context menus when working with text (see Figure 5-4).

Other useful context menu feature for text include:
- Spell Checking is easily accessed by using the context menus while editing text with the text tool.
- You can use the Fill with Placeholder Text option to place dummy text inside of an existing frame.
- With the Insert Special Character command you can easily add unusual characters such as a copyright or trademark symbol.
- Text Frame Options make it easy to change the number of columns applied to a text frame, remove text wrap or change the text inset.
- Use Change Case to change characters to reflect the desired capitilizationincluding all caps, all lower case or sentence case.
- Show Hidden Characters displays all typographic symbols, including spaces, hard returns and tabs. A great proofreading tool that you would otherwise access from the Type menu.
