Aligning Objects
Simple aligning is when you want two or more objects to align precisely along their sides or centers. In QuarkXPress, you choose this in the Space/Align dialog box by turning on either Horizontal or Vertical, setting the Space value to 0, and choosing the side or center to align on. In InDesign, you just click on one of the six icons in the top row of the palettethere are three for horizonal and three for vertical alignment.Where XPress always aligns to the top-most or left-most object, InDesign aligns along the most-obvious edge (top-most for top-aligning, bottom-most for bottom-aligning, and so on). The one exception is when one object is locked; in that case, all the other objects move and the locked item stays put.
