Appendix C) includes twenty-four design sessions conducted over twelve weeks. The primary cast of characters includes the executive sponsor, project manager, design team, and extended team members for transportation, data, and process step inquiries.

As noted in the project charter, there are seven steering team milestones: reviewing and approving 1) AS IS material flow and disconnect process; 2) material flow disconnects; 3) preliminary opportunity summary; 4) TO BE material flow recommendations; 5) work and information flow transactional analysis; 6) work and information flow baseline TO BE business blueprint; and 7) work and information flow productivity opportunity summary.

The design effort provides the basis for a project portfolio of supply chain improvements offering a six-month cost-neutral return on investment with two- to six-times return after a year. The portfolio (discussed in detail in Chapter 19) outlines work that will span twenty-four to thirty-six months.
