The Latin word memor means "mindful." The Latin word memorandum means "a thing to be remembered." The root that you see in the examples in the preceding sentences is -mem-. Some of these wordsremember, memory, memorize, and memorialare probably familiar ones. To commemorate is to celebrate the memory of an event; memorabilia are things worthy of remembrance; memoirs are personal rememberings or records.
