Modifying an Animated GIF File

Modifying an animated GIF file is as easy as remembering that each one of the frames in the animation is stored as a separate layer in the Layers palette. Once you figure that out, it's a simple matter of selecting the layer you want to modify, and make the changes. You can even add or delete layers, it's simple when you work through the Layers palette. Since Photoshop has more editing tools to work with, you can jump back and forth between ImageReady and Photoshop.

Modify an Animated GIF File

Open an animated GIF file in ImageReady.

Open the

Animation and

Layers palettes.

Click the

2-Up palette, and then select the original image (you can not modify an optimized image).

Use the

Layers palette to select the layer (animation frame) you want to modify.

Use any of the options available to add to the layerslayer masks, layer styles, opacity, and blending modes.

Click the

Edit In Photoshop Jump button on the toolbox to modify the image using Photoshop's vast array of editing tools.

When you're done in Photoshop, click the

Edit In Image Ready Jump button.

Click the

File menu, and then click

Save Optimized .

Your animation changes have been saved.
