  • Copying Texture Values

Tired of having to jot down RGB values for colors, or drag them to the right material slot? New right-click menus for copying and pasting colors, materials, and bitmaps will also save you time and trouble. In the past, if you needed to copy a color to another parameter, you would drag and drop it to the desired location; for example, you'd drag the color from a light onto a material's Specular Color swatch, so that the colors would be identical. Now you can right-click on a color swatch, map, or material and choose Copy or Paste (Figure 3.15). It's a little improvement, but you'll probably use it all the time.

When copying and pasting a material or map, you have the option of pasting as a Copy or pasting as an Instance. The Instance option keeps the changes to the copied material or map linked, so that a change to one will change the other (Figures 3.16 and 3.17).
