Chapter 17. Cluster, Indexing, Message Queuing, SMS, MOM, and WSH
This chapter examines several advanced features, each of which plays an important role in a Windows Server 2003 enterprise.
Clustering provides high availability for critical services and applications by maintaining two joined servers (or nodes); if one node or subcomponent fails, the other assumes functional responsibility. This chapter provides a conceptual view of Windows Server 2003 clustering technology and base-level administrative information.
Windows Server 2003 Indexing Service builds local and remote disk drive index catalogs.
Microsoft Message Queuing Service (MSMQ) is an interapplication communication system and development tool. It is analogous to electronic mail except that it involves communication between system queues rather than between users.
System Management Server 2.0 (SMS) is part of the BackOffice product family and not a core Windows Server 2003 operating system component. Nevertheless, the tools available via SMS can significantly improve system administration, especially in large enterprises.
Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) is the most recent supplemental system management tool available to the Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 product family. SMS and MOM are complementary optional management tools.
Windows Scripting Host (WSH 2.0).
