Insider Insight

Many sound cards include a built-in interface through which you can attach a CD-ROM drive. Linux needs a separate device driver to access a CD-ROM drive connected to a sound card; the sound driver does not have anything to do with the CD-ROM drive, even though the drive is attached to the sound card. By the same token, the sound driver has nothing to do with the joystick port that many sound cards include.
