Chapter 4. Six SigmaFinal Thoughts Motorola invented Six Sigma, and we have had many years to reflect on our past successes and failures. What began as a way to reduce defects has become an overall business improvement framework that marries the scientific method with business acumen. Over the years, we've gained several key insights. We've discovered that the formula for Six Sigma success involves Aligning projects and executives around the metrics and projects that matter, Mobilizing them in action learning Black Belt teams, Accelerating their progress, and Governing the sustained results. We're confident that Six Sigma's past history of solid results gives it a foundation on which to grow. The use of scientific methods and applications for solving a wide range of organizational problems is just beginning to show promise. While no one can forecast the future perfectly, we've highlighted what we believe are the most compelling and likely directions. We're quite certain the future of Six Sigma is very bright.
