5.0. Existing Wireless Assessment
2.4-GHz Patient Monitoring system Symbol Technologies Frequency Hopping access points were deployed in the ER and the ICU and are used for patient monitoring systems. It is vital that these units receive no interference from the proposed WLAN. Care needs to be taken to insure there is adequate isolation between the two systems. The majority of these access points were deployed with the 2-dBi omni-directional antenna (ceiling tile grid mount) within 3 feet of the access point.Access points were set at 100 mW output power.Testing showed that the Cisco AP 1200 and the Symbol FH APs were installed with a minimum of 10 feet between the devices. There was no noticeable interference between the two systems.
Wireless Phone System Spectralink 900-MHz phones are deployed throughout the facility with base stations located in every hallway throughout the building. The transmitter power of these phones is 600 mW.The phones use a frequency hopping modulation mode. There is no interference between the phone system and the proposed 2.4-GHz WLAN system. |
