User Input

No site survey can be completed without the input from the persons who will be using and administering the network after it has been installed. It is very important to have the input from both groups because the actual users of devices on the network might have different concerns from those of the network administrators. For example, warehouse stockers using WLAN voice technology for their instructions might want 100 percent network connectivity RF coverage so that they can transmit and receive data even while reaching into the shelving. However, a network administrator who does not interface with this part of the company might not have relevant knowledge of day-to-day operations. The pre-site survey form is the foundation for all of this input; it provides the foundational information from which to extrapolate ideas and contribute solutions.

Experienced survey technicians should look for additional network needs and survey issues during the pre-survey walkthrough so that these issues can be discussed prior to the site survey being performed. Such observations include identifying all aspects of the proposed WLAN use and implementation restrictions.
