13.7 Summary

In this chapter, we introduced a new mobile application architecture: offline but synchronized applications. Synchronization is probably the most used technique to connect wireless devices to corporate networks today. It will continue to be important in the future. We went through tools offered by leading mobile database vendors. The code examples and mini tutorials should get you started on those tools. For detailed information and comprehensive example applications, you can refer to vendor-specific documentation. As database synchronization becomes mainstream, the protocols are likely to be standardizedjust as SyncML has done to PIM synchronization today. However, the underlying concepts and technology we discussed in this chapter will remain the same. Near the end of this chapter, we discussed how to refactor synchronization support into the Contact Manager application (Chapter 11).
