Discover Different Kinds of Widgets

There are three different kinds of widgets, although they are all so interesting and easy to work with, you won't really care which is which!

  • Information widgets work with data from the Internet. You can check external events such as the weather anywhere in the world, the flight status of any plane, or current prices of your favorite stocks. You must be connected to the Internet to get the information for these widgets.

  • Application widgets work with applications on your Mac. They typically provide a small and easy way of displaying the critical features of the main application. For instance, the iTunes widget is a small controller that gives you buttonsstart, stop, play songs, and moreto listen to your Playlists or Internet radio without having the iTunes interface take up your whole screen. If the main application requires the Internet to function, so will the application widget.

  • Accessory widgets are self-contained little utilities that provide a variety of features. Widgets such as clocks, calculators, notes, or timers are accessories. You do not have to have Internet access to use these, nor are they dependent on an application.
