Selecting Packages to Install on Mandrake


The Mandrake screen for selecting package groups to install is shown in Figure 4-20.

Checks are shown by the package groups Mandrake plans to install. You can check additional groups or uncheck groups. For instance, if you are new to Linux, you might want to check the GNOME desktop so Mandrake will install both KDE and GNOME, allowing you to try both before you decide which you prefer to use.

A line at the bottom shows you the "Total size" of the packages checked so that you can be sure you have enough disk space available.

If you check Individual package selection and click Next, Mandrake will display a screen that allows you to select individual packages, rather than groups of packages.

Unless you are really sure you need something that's not included in Mandrake's displayed list, it's usually best to accept Mandrake's choices. You can always add or remove software later, after your Linux system is installed. You don't need to decide now.
