Section Options
If you want the section to begin with a specific page number, choose Start Page Numbering At and type the page number. Otherwise, if the page numbering simply continues from the previous section, use the Automatic numbering option.
Prefixes
As in XPress, you can enter a Section Prefix if you would like the page numbers to be preceded by a label of 5 characters or fewer. For example, enter "A-" if you want the pages within this section to appear as A-1, A-2 , and so on.
Style
The Style popup menu lets you determine whether the pages within a section are numbered using Arabic page numbering (our usual counting method), Roman numerals, or letters.
Section Marker
InDesign's Section Marker option (XPress doesn't have this) lets you type variable text that will be inserted whenever you use the Section Name command from the Insert Special Character menu (see Chapter 51). For instance, if you lay out more than one chapter of a book within a single InDesign document, you could make each chapter a different section, typing the name of the chapter into the Section Marker field. Then, insert the Section Name character into a text box on a master page applied to the document pages. When you return to the document pages, you'll see the proper chapter name in each section. This is much faster than creating a different master page for each chapter.
