Opening Files To open an InDesign file, choose Open from the File menu, double-click on the file on the desktop, or drag the file's icon onto the application icon. You can also open QuarkXPress and PageMaker documents with InDesign (see Appendix A). When opening InDesign files you can select from three options in the Open dialog box (see Figure 27-1).

- Open Normal. This is the default option and the one you'll use when you just want to edit an existing file. If you open a file saved as a template (see below), this option opens a new, Untitled document based on the template.
- Open Original. Use this option to open and edit a template file itself, instead of opening an Untitled file based on the template.
- Open Copy. With this option you can use any document as a starting point for a new document. To achieve the same result in QuarkXPress, you'd need to manually duplicate a document and then open it.
