Creating Placeholder Text
InDesign makes it easy to create placeholder text when you're creating a preliminary layout: First, either place an insertion point in a text frame with the Type tool, or select one or more text frames with the Selection tool. Then choose Fill with Placeholder Text from the Type menu or the context menu. Dummy text fills the frames, and continues through any threaded frames.Of course, this isn't as powerful (or cool) as Quark's Jabberwocky XTension. On the other hand, if you want to use text of your own for a placeholder, create it in any word processor and save it as a text-only file with the name "placeholder.txt" (with no quotes), in your InDesign application folder. The next time you use the Fill with Placeholder Text command, InDesign uses your text instead.
