Bounding Boxes and Anchor Points


InDesign is engineered from the ground up to allow shape editing. The appearance of a selected frame changes depending on the tool you are working with. When the Selection tool is active, a selected path or frame shows eight bounding box handles, just like in XPress (one on each corner, one on each side; see Figure 11-2). A solid, non-printing center point also appears which is handy for selecting objects that have no content.

When the Direct Selection tool is active, you see the the

anchor points which make up the shape of the path or frame (see Figure 11-3). It's as though XPress's Edit Shape feature were turned on automatically. A non-printing center point is also displayed. We'll describe how to edit the shape of frames in the next chapter.
