Editing Effects

In the dialog box, the Size field is the equivalent of XPress' Corner Radius attribute. It controls the radius of the corner effect from each corner point. While QuarkXPress box shapes only apply to rectangles, InDesign's corner effects can apply to any path or frameeven polygons and Bézier shapes. The effect only appears on corner points, however. For instance, you could apply a rounded effect to a startburst made with the Polygon tool to make each spike rounded.

Unfortunately, other than changing the Size (radius), you can't edit these effects. When you select the path with the Direct Selection tool, you'll see the anchor points of the underlying path shape, not the points on the effect itself. You can change the appearance of a corner effect by varying the path's stroke weight, by changing the Size setting, or by editing the underlying path. In Figure 15-1, the fancy effect rectangle has been edited to create the same effect applied to a parallelogram.
